How to get there: The Ghiaie beach is just outside the historic town centre of Portoferraio, in front of a garden with the same name.
This is another beach used by people from Portoferraio as well as by tourists and has been equipped for bathing since this tradition started. It is especially famous for the pristine white of its eurite pebbles and its crystal clear turquoise water. There are small dark blue marks on these sea smoothed pebbles. A legend says the sweat of the tired Argonauts marked the pebbles for ever. Being a protected area it is an excellent place to go snorkelling.
