Once upon a time this was a place for quarrying and loading of granite. Today Cavoli is one of the most "in" beaches of Elba. It was already fashionable in the 70s, the beautiful beach is famous because of its southerly position and for the natural beauty surrounding it, for example the crystal clear water and the type of sand and rocks. The Capanne massive protects the bay from northerly winds allowing a micro-climate suitable for sunbathing out of season. The sun heats up the granite valley and the basin of shallow water thus creating a positive thermal anomaly: on the rocky slopes there are abundant prickly pears and other plants from hotter climes. The beach is used on fine days from the end of March right to through to November. The sand is mostly of quartz grains, which don't usually make the turquoise water cloudy. The beach , 300 metres long, is divided in two by a small group of rocks: the largest part to the east, has beach services with bathing facilities, the smaller part, to the west, is a free beach and is used by those who are looking for more tranquillity.
