How to get there: down a road off Viale Einaudi to a paying car park. From here down some steps on the cliff to the sea.
The beach is at the foot of a white eurite cliff, gradually the sea is breaking this up into pebbles and white sand. Once upon a time it was snubbed by the people of Portoferraio who preferred the beaches nearer the centre of town, now it is loved by both tourists and locals for its clear turquoise water and it is often found in photos on postcards or in holiday brochures. It is divided in two by rocks so if you want to reach the far end the tide and the waves mean you must wet your feet.
The seabed is fascinating for anyone who loves snorkelling, there are some shallows to the west with some rocks emerging above sea level. From here, in high summer, there are fantastic sunsets: the cliffs are coloured pink and red by the ball of fire sinking into the sea.
